Who we are
We are a passionate team of individuals located all across the US who believe in nurturing the best leaders our nation has to offer. Our team represents several sectors–including software engineering, medicine, education, and finance–and has come together because we want to empower future generations. Through our programs, we seek to develop changemakers who solve social issues with carefully-considered, tailored responses that give everyone the chance to thrive.
What we do
We connect America’s underserved youth across state lines and develop their
leadership skills to create innovators who approach our nation’s vast social issues with compassion, understanding, and competence.
Why we do it
The United States is a vast nation full of different perspectives, contexts, and cultures. But this incredible diversity gives rise to complex social challenges. Part of the challenge is often that no single solution works for everyone involved.
These issues require nuanced, individualized solutions. In order to engineer such solutions, we need well-informed leaders who are both passionate and compassionate.
5-Fold Plan
1) Provide an opportunity for our underresourced students to grow and appreciate new contexts by allowing them to study in and travel to a different state.
2) Help students build understanding and camaraderie with people in their host state.
3) Develop students’ problem-solving skills via volunteer work with a partner nonprofit organization that focuses on host community issues.
4) Encourage students to pursue and explore higher education opportunities such as college or vocational school.
5) Create a strong network of Interstate Scholars alumni who both support one another and work together to solve major issues.
